Proof of yellow fever vaccination is in the form of a certificate called “The International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis”. This is the approved document from the World Health Organisation. Colloquially, this document is frequently referred to as the “yellow book”. Once you are immunised against yellow fever at our Sydney clinic, our doctor will complete yellow book document. You will need to travel with this document and you may be asked to show this document when you arrive at customs. The certificate is internationally recognised as proof of yellow fever vaccination status. We normally suggest that you make additional copies of this important document and travel with these in the event of theft or an emergency. Currently, this document is valid for 10 years from the date of issue but this is subject to review by the World Health Organisation at the present time. The certificates issued from our clinic are about the same size as a standard passport.

The International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis book is completed in either English or French, the languages of the WHO. One of the questions “National identification document, if applicable” so it is useful (but not absolutely essential) to bring your passport to the consultation at the clinic. Your International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (yellow book) is included with your consultation and provides as proof of your yellow fever vaccination at our clinic.

Certain specific medical conditions preclude yellow fever vaccination. In cases where yellow fever vaccination is medically unsafe, the doctor at our clinic is able to issue a yellow fever vaccination exemption certificate which will normally provide passage through customs as an alternative to the yellow book.
